John Deere Ottumwa Works

John Deere Ottumwa Works manufactures round balers, small square balers, pull-type forage harvesters, mower conditioners, and self-propelled windrowers. Spread across 120 acres, the Ottumwa, Iowa, facility has over 850 employees and makes over 10,000 units each year.

Joseph Dain

Inventor of hay machinery, brought the Dain Manufacturing Company here from Carrollton, Missouri in 1900, after Ottumwa business men helped financially to make the move possible. Ten years later the plant was sold to Deere & Company of Moline, Illinois, Mr. Dain remained with the firm and served as vice-president until his death in 1917.
